Scherenschnitte...

I attempted this craft for the first time, to make a birthday present for a friend. I did more research than necessary, since I ended up using card stock and an x-acto knife, not scherenschnitte schcissors.
Things that didn't work for me:
parchment paper
tiny embroidery scissors
taping the design to the paper
textured card stock

So my third and final attempt yielded this, which I liked enough to give to my friend, but was probably too painstaking to ever do again:
